Star Cinema scored another hit after the simultaneous showing of Girl, Boy, Bakla, Tomboy and Pagpag at the recently-concluded MMFF 2013 which earned them a total gross of more than PHP 600 million.
Bride for Rent which stars Kim Chiu and Xian Lim is curremtly taking the whole country by storm, yes - even more powerful than Super Typhoon Yolanda. The movie opened in more than 100 theaters nationwide on Wednesday January 15 with a whooping PHP 21.2 Million.
Mico del Rosario, Star Cinema's PR manager confirmed this on his Instagram account:
“Amaaazzzzinnggg!!! On its first day: #brideforrent made a whopping P21.2Million at the box-office!!! Congratulations to the entire team! Pang-MMFF levels sa lakas ang kimxian tandem!"As a matter of fact, it was first time since 1992 that a movie opened after MMFF has this strong box office appeal.
"Surprising! Exciting! 1st time daw na may ganito kalakas just right after MMFF! Grabeng Christmas at New Year gift nyo po sa amin ang pagnood at pagsuporta sa #BrideForRent! Di man kami nakapagbakasyon, sinulit nyo po!", Carmi Raymundo, the writer who wrote the script, tweeted on Wednesday.
Few more theaters were added in top SM and Ayala malls nationwide to accommodate more people to watch the movie on its first week of run.
Directed by Mae Cruz, Bride for Rent tells a story of Rocky dela Cruz played by Kim Chiu who auditioned and qualified for a role without knowing she'll be playing a "wife" to Rocco Espiritu played by Xian Lim who wants to inherit his grandmother’s riches.
The movie clearly solidified the strength of KimXi at the box office. Congratulations!
